EAMES CHAIRS

Eames furniture is built on the philosophy "what works is better than what looks good", and indeed function over form is the ethos of husband and wife team Charles and Ray Eames. Their unique furniture creations had their origins in the 1940's as innovative experiments in low-cost, functional, and organic design, which included the new technique of wood molding. Today, Eames furnishings are still in the vanguard of pragmatic and ergonomic offerings, reflecting a stripped-down mentality while also conforming to the human body in groundbreaking and still-popular ways.

Prominent in the Eames canon of high-functioning furniture design is the Herman Miller line of products, which include the Aeron line, the Embody chair, and the Kneeling Computer chair. The development of metal chairs, most notably aluminum and wire mesh chairs characterized early works. They are also credited with inventing the Chaise Lounge chair and other types of lounge chairs. Most of these revolutionary models were the results of entries into competitions sponsored by different museums, which gave birth to new designs never before seen in the world of furniture. Chairs with adjustable seat and back angles are also idiosyncratic of the Eames furniture products. They also designed storage units, sofas, and airplane parts.

Eames furniture designs don't come cheap. The Embody chair retails for $1,099, though the Ergonomic Kneeling Computer chair is a rare exception, and goes for $149. Most of the Eames products retail in the range of between $400 and $3,000. The Herman Miller Aeron Chair is graphite-framed and has a graphite or aluminum polished base, and retails for $849. The Basic Lounge Chair and Ottoman pair goes for between $3,699 and $4,077, comparatively shopping.

With Eames-designed furniture, you can count on getting the utmost in quality, durability and functionality. Providing the best fusion of art, ergonomics and innovative design, Eames furniture has brought customers interested in something above the run of the mill the kind of long-lasting satisfaction that goes with any respected name brand. Chairs We Love

Eames_Chaise Eames Chaise The design of the Eames Chaise came about after a conversation between the Eameses and a close friend, Academy Award-winning actor Billy Wilder. Wilder told them about how he liked to catch a quick snooze during breaks between filming while on one particular movie set. His was a most unlikely bed, nothing more than a wooden plank laid across a couple of sawhorses. His casual mention of his unusual napping place inspired Charles and Ray Eames to create one of the most popular and acclaimed pieces of fine furniture ever made.

Eames Wire Chairs Eames Wire Chairs The instantly recognizable look of an Eames wire chair comes from its airy silhouette created by cross-woven wires secured over a welded, bent wire pedestal commonly called the “Eiffel Tower” for its resemblance to the Paris landmark. The rim of the chair is made of lighter gauge wire doubled for stability and strength. The curved, bucket-back seat made of cross-woven wires provides an organic look designed to fit the contours of the body for profoundly comfortable seating. Cross weaving is used only where required to keep the chair strong, lightweight, and easy to move.
